Homemade Sazón

Sharing is caring!

I love mixing up all my own seasonings and spice blends. Why buy a mix of spices I often already have individually in my cupboard? Just like Homemade Pizza Seasoning is a good all purpose seasoning,  Homemade Sazón offers up all the flavors of Latino cuisine in one blend.  Sazón simply means seasoning in Spanish, and it is a spice blend is used in Caribbean cooking and Spain that packs a good punch of flavor. The most commonly known commercially produced Sazon is Goya Sazon, you can find it almost at any grocery store.  A well stocked pantry will probably provide all the ingredients needed to make your own version, perfectly suited to your specific needs and tastes!

Homemade Sazón

Homemade Sazón is essentially a seasoning salt. You can use it anywhere you want a little or a lot of flavor.  Sprinkle on burgers, add a dash to rice, season chicken. Homemade Sazón is so versatile you will find yourself using it often.  And because you made it yourself you control all the ingredients, add as much or as little of each individual spice as you would like, and there are no unneeded ingredients. When using your homemade sazón in a recipe 1 1/2 teaspoons will equal one packet of commercial sazón.

  1. Glad to find a recipe that doesn’t use annatto as my granddaughter is allergic to it! Thank you.

    1. @freebirdsings, I suspect you know this, but just in case … if you get sazon in a grocery store, it’ll say ‘sin achiote’ if you want something without annatto.

  2. Greetings from Tipperary, great pizza seasoning, gonna try the Sazon next but I’ve not heard of it before….what’s it mainly used in? Thanks.

    1. Hi Thomas,
I am glad you like the pizza seasoning, that is my all time favorite homemade spice mix.
Sazon is used in a lot of Latin American rice dishes (think beans and rice), but it is a general seasoning that can also be used in soups and stews.

  3. I like to make my own seasoning mixes also… much cheaper. This sounds wonderful and I am going to make it as I think I have all the spices in my cupboard. Thanks for sharing on Foodie Friends Friday and I hope that you will join us again this coming week. Pinning this.
